ARCHIPENKO SCULPTURE CATALOGUE RAISONNE

QUALIFICATIONS FOR INCLUSION

The Alexander Archipenko Catalogue Raisonné observes the following Qualifications for Inclusion:

  • SCULPTURES

    Included works fall under the following categories:

    • Sculptures created and/or authorized by Alexander Archipenko during his lifetime, which have been examined and found authentic and/or are adequately documented in the artist’s archives
    • Sculptures by Archipenko considered lost or destroyed when there is sufficient documentation of the work's prior existence and authenticity
    • Cast sculptures created and/or authorized by Archipenko during his lifetime but finished posthumously under the authority of Frances Archipenko Gray (including casts on behalf of the Archipenko Associates and the Archipenko Foundation)
    • Sculptures conceived by Alexander Archipenko for which the artist declared an edition, and cast posthumously under the authority of Frances Archipenko Gray (including casts on behalf of the Archipenko Associates and the Archipenko Foundation)

    Sculptures not included fall under the following categories:

    • Sculptures of questionable attribution or authenticity
    • Reproductions not made or authorized by Archipenko
  • EXHIBITIONS

    We list solo and group exhibitions that include the work of Alexander Archipenko, from the earliest documented exhibition until today.

  • BIBLIOGRAPHY

    The bibliography includes writings by and about Alexander Archipenko, such as books, essays, lectures, newspaper and journal articles, exhibition catalogues, and doctoral dissertations. Literature that does not make significant reference to artworks in The Alexander Archipenko Catalogue Raisonné is also included when relevant to the understanding of Archipenko’s artistic practice.

    Not included are advertisements, institutional annual reports or recent acquisition publications, and auction catalogues.
